10 Things to Help Your Home Sell

  • De-Clutter! Get rid of paper, magazine, etc stacks and piles. Pack away kick-knacks and most of your small decorative pieces. Clear your closets of out-of-season apparel, making space and appearance of roomier closets. Make sure you don't have too many furniture pieces in your home. Tidy up your garage.
  • Remove personal items such as family photos and children's art projects. You want the potential buyers to be able to see themselves in your home, not you.
  • Clean your windows and screens. This will let more light into the interior of your home.
  • Take extra care! Since a clean home makes a better first impression, pay attention to all the small details… wipe fingerprints from light switch plates, mop and wax floors, clean stove and refrigerator, mop and wax floors.
  • Neutralize any smells. Clean carpet and drapes to eliminate smoke, pet or cooking odors. Open your windows for fresh air.
  • Light check! Replace any burned out bulbs and upgrade to higher wattage when acceptable to brighten rooms. Be sure to add extra light to dark rooms or basements.
  • Fix the small things - leaky faucets, sticking doors, torn window screens, cracked caulking and other minor things will all add up to make the potential buyers feel the house hasn't been taken care of.
  • Curb appeal - Make sure your yard is nicely manicured, leaves raked, bushed trimmed and flowers placed near the front entry. Make sure your walk is clear of grass clippings or any other debris.
  • Clean out the gutters.
  • Polish hardware such as doorknobs and door numbers.
